Corinth Baptist Church

The Church Where We Are Known For Our Love

Pastor Damon and Marquisa Horton

Corinth Missionary Baptist Church was founded by the late Pastor James C. Adams in 1975. Pastor Adams pastored for 20 years with his wife, Joyce Vera Adams, by his side until he retired in 1995. Under the leadership of Pastor Adams Corinth was known for their gifted choir and love for Christ.  Pastor Adam's leadership taught the church to endure and thrive under any condition. During the winter month’s Sunday worship services were held in the basement, the only part of the massive church that was heated.  Regardless of if services were held in the upper sanctuary or basement, they were holy ghost filled and Pastor Adams consistently preached the good gospel.

Corinth’s search for a new pastor proved not to be an easy task as Pastoring meant taking on the massive building while memberships grew and declined as the seasons changed. Finally, in 1996, Pastor Tracy Frazier was called as the next pastor which he did from 1996 -1999. Pastor Frazier incorporated the saying  “We are Known as Christians by our Love” as the church motto and his theme was “Reaching the Community one Soul at a time”. During his time pastoring furnaces were installed which provided heat in the upper sanctuary.

Pastor Charles Ham was installed and Pastored from 2000-2016. For 16 years Pastor Ham with his family by his side carried the charge of leading the congregation.  Throughout his years ministering at Corinth, Pastor Ham persevered through the ups and downs of Pastoring an aging church.  Even while being on dialysis and dealing with health issues, Pastor Ham continued to carry out the charge he received from God until God told him it was time for him to retire.

After Pastor Ham retired the remnant of members left wondered if they should continue with the fight of keeping the church doors open.  Founding member Mother Minnie Hollinshed; long time member Deacon Charles Brown; Minister Robert Jennings who was with the church before Corinth was founded; and Jocelyn Walton the daughter of Pastor James Adams went into prayer and heard the Lord loudly speak for them to stay on the battle field.

It was then that the search for a new Pastor led them to make a historical decision as they voted Elder Marquisa Darden into the role as Pastor of Corinth in January of 2018 and she was installed in March 2018.  Marquisa was raised as a member of Corinth, was baptized by Pastor Adams, and her children baptized by Pastor Frazier and Pastor Ham.

In June of 2018, just 6 months after she was voted in as Pastor of Corinth, Elder Damon Horton married Marquisa and they began to Pastor as one.  Pastor Damon was officially installed as a Pastor in March of 2020 making the joint Pastoring of Corinth Official.  Together Pastors Damon and Marquisa Horton now serve as Pastors of Corinth M.B. Church and are known as #Team Horton among their peers.
